How to type Spanish characters on Windows
Step-by-step: type ñ, accented vowels, ü, ¿, and ¡ on Windows. Quick reference for Spanish students.
How to type them
- Hold Alt and type the code on the numeric keypad, then release Alt (for example, Alt + 0241 for ñ).
- Or enable Spanish (Spain/Mexico) or US-International: Settings → Time & language → Typing → Advanced keyboard settings.
- With US-International, use Right Alt + punctuation for some symbols; Spanish layout maps ñ to its own key.
Tip: Alt codes need the numeric keypad (Num Lock on). On laptops without a keypad, add the Spanish or United States-International keyboard in Settings → Time & language → Language & region.
