Grammar spotlight

Direct object pronouns replace noun objects already known from context: ¿Compras la mesa? → ¿La compras? Placement is usually before a finite verb or attached to an infinitive or affirmative command: Lo voy a hacer / Voy a hacerlo.

Spanish allows explicit subjects with verbs like gustar for clarity: A mi hermana le gusta limpiar. Quehaceres vocabulary pairs naturally with reflexives (lavarse) or transitive verbs (planchar la ropa).

Lavo los platos y mi hermano los seca.
I wash the dishes and my brother dries them.
¿Pones tú la mesa o la pongo yo?
Do you set the table or do I set it?
